#1 Highway Inn Judge 1 - That was good. Nice flavor. Veggies cooked perfect. Broth tasty and nice consistency. Other than the big hunk of fat, it was quite good. Judge 2 - Not enough veggies. Not sweet enough...but yummy. Was good to see the meat was browned. Judge 3 - The meat was good. Would add more celery. Judge 4 - Good traditional beef stew, just like you'd make at home. Sauce was tasty. Judge 5 - Meat tender, carrots cooked just right. Flavor ono. Maybe slightly salty. Rice good also. Judge 6 - Meat was tender and flavorful. Sauce was seasoned well. I would order this again. Judge 7 - Looks like real stew. Best one yet. Where's the celery and onions? Nice balance of flavors. #2 Helena's Hawaiian Food Judge 1 - Good overall. Good beef flavor. Broth could be a little thicker. Judge 2 - Nice subtle taste. Overall good taste. I would eat more. Judge 3 - Good, but carrots were too big. Judge 4 - Tasty. Similar to stew F (Highway Inn). Meat and veg was good. Meat was really good. Soft, but not chewy. Judge 5 - I like the flavor on this one. Meat was lean. Carrots cooked well. Judge 6 - Meat was soft. Veg cooked well. Good flavor to sauce. Judge 7 - Looks good. Tastes good. Solid. Nice overall in every area. #2 Sam Choy's BLC Judge 1 - Very good stew. Beef is a little chewy, but very good flavor and consistency. BUT rice was terrible. Really brought down the overall eating experience. This was my favorite stew. If wasn't for the rice, it would have been a 9. Judge 2 - Best one of the night! Despite the low grade rice. Beef was flavorful. Flavor of beef was much better than all the other stews. Judge 3 - I liked the meat because it was soft and tasty. Rice was awful. Judge 4 - Big pieces of meat and veg, but taste only ok. Rice a little different. Seem like minute rice. Judge 5 - Nice flavor. Meat lean. Potato cooked just right. Judge 6 - Best tasting stew. Loss 1 point for junk rice. Judge 7 - A little boring. Not much turned me on. #4 Brandi's Deli Judge 1 - Pretty good. Sauce is a little tart. Very tomatoey. But overall good flavor. Very chunky and hearty, but a little disappointing because no potato chunks. What's up with dat?!? Judge 2 - Beef is well cooked. More veggie variety. Good hearty rich tasting stew. Judge 3 - I liked the meat consistency and I liked the generous meat portions. A little too tangy. Judge 4 - Ok. Lots of meat and veg. First one with celery. Nothing too exciting. Judge 5 - Too salty. Don't care for flavor. Meat not very tender. Judge 6 - Glad that it had celery. Taste was ok. Judge 7 - Good taste. Beef too chewy. Solid but unsexy. #5 Ono's Hawaiian Food Judge 1 - It looked really good, but I did not care for it overall. Beef was very fatty (not always a bad thing) and chewy, and flavor was not beef stew like. Broth flavor forgettable. Judge 2 - Meat is very tender. Good blend of sweetness and saltiness. Potatoes are just right. But...not enough variety of veggies. Judge 3 - Vegetables are too big. I like them cut smaller. Rice was a little mushy. However, the beef was tasty. Judge 4 - Really big pieces of vegetables, almost too big. Prefer smaller veg. Lots of fat on pieces of meat. Sauce ok, but borderline watery taste. Judge 5 - I like the flavor. Carrots cooked just right. Meat a little fatty. Judge 6 - Vegy too big, did not like color. Slightly oily. Judge 7 - Cartilage. Vegetables big, but at least had lots of them. Ok. #6 Zippy's Judge 1 - Not bad stew. Peas in beef stew is kind of weird. Decent flavor. Beef little chewy, veg nicely cooked. Broth too brown and gravy like for me. Judge 2 - Not enough veggies. Meat was kinda chewy. Too much tang. A little too salty. Size of veggies not consistent. Judge 3 - Good variety of vegetables. Didn't mind the peas. Judge 4 - Big chunks of meat. Meat and veg cooked just right soft but not mushy. More of a brown homemade sauce. Peas were not bad, but threw me off little bit. Homemade taste. Judge 5 - Flavor, didn't like it that much. Rice little hard. Judge 6 - Not a fan of peas. Veg cooked pretty well Judge 7 - Not enough flavor. Too few carrots in proportion to other items. Consistency good. #7 L&L Pearl Kai Judge 1 - Not bad. A little spicy for my taste. Kind of an odd flavor, but beef was good, and broth had good thickness, consistency. Judge 2 - Not your traditional beef stew. All the veggies and beef chunks were too big. Too much of a bite. I love spicy food, but this was a little weird. I wouldn't order this again. Judge 3 - This was gross. I was only able to take 1 bite. Judge 4 - This stew was different. Slightly sweet, but a little spicy. Meat and veg was good. Judge 5 - Funny flavor. Not typical local beef stew. And spicy. I don't like spicy. Carrots not cooked enough. Judge 6 - Meat was over cooked. Different taste like spicy sweet. Judge 7 - Spicy which is good. Unique. Very different. This stew is like a girl that you think is sexy but you don't know why. #8 Fort Ruger Market Judge 1 - Consistency is weird. Gelatinous and porridge-like are not words that should go with good beef stew. Judge 2 - Not enough gravy. Not enough meat. A little sour tasting. Judge 3 - Hardly any meat. It was basically all potato. Had to dig for it and there was only 1 piece. Judge 4 - Taste ok, but not visually pleasing. Looks and taste like mush (maybe potatoes melted down). Not much meat. Judge 5 - Not good. Judge 6 - Mushy strange taste. Judge 7 - The only stew I was afraid to eat. All one weird consistency. Not good. #9 Dinty Moore (wild card control entry) Judge 1 - Without a campfire, that is unacceptable stew. I gave a #2 score because it is edible and if you are hungry it will suffice. That was not beef. Judge 2 - Meat is yucky. Taste like old bland mushy meatball. Only took 1 bite, that was more than enough. Wouldn't spend money to eat this. Judge 3 - The hamburger consistency. Didn't like the meatballs in it. It was salty, didn't have celery in it. The carrots and potatoes tasted like they were from canned soup. Judge 4 - Taste like canned beef stew. Veg didn't taste too fresh and meat is like a meatball. Judge 5 - Hamburger instead of stew meat. Judge 6 - Tasted like canned beef stew. Weird meat. Judge 7 - Mushy meat ball. No celery, onions, etc. I didn't finish eating it.
