Here are the competitors listed in random order and the reasons we selected them to compete. Kakaako Kitchen - Ranked in the top 3 in Catherine Toth's 2006 fried rice blind tasting. We figured must be good. Side Street Inn - Ranked #1 in Catherine Toth's 2006 fried rice blind tasting. This is a locally renowned fried rice among foodies and non-foodies alike. Sam Choy's BLC - This is one of my personal favorites for fried rice, especially when I had it for breakfast at the Sam Choy's in Kona which is now closed. On top of that, it's called "Sam's Famous Fried Rice" on their menu, so I figure must be pretty good. Nelli778 Homemade - Nelli778 issued the WOW Grinds Challenge, so we set it up. She said it's her Dad's recipe and it has roots in the Big Island Fire Department kitchen. Kapiolani Coffee Shop - Ranked near the bottom in Catherine Toth's 2006 fried rice blind tasting. But I wanted to give this one a rematch because it's one of my personal favorites. On top of that, this place is famous for their fried rice from the Kam Bowl days.
