 We've been arguing about this and we need some answers. Here's some of the arguement so far...
Is hamburger steak the same thing as meat loaf but just different shape? If you made your hamburger steak in a loaf shape would it become meat loaf? If you took your meat loaf and shaped it in to patties could you call it hamburger steak? What you figgah?

Since we started WOW Grinds, we've been talking to plenty different people, about plenty different foods, getting asked plenty questions about all kind local grinds, and we don't know how for answer. We not food experts so we thought we would throw the questions out to you guys, the local grinds experts, and ask you folks...What You Figgah? So here goes...
Since the Portuguese sausage challenge is coming up tomorrow night (9/14/08), somebody brought up this question..."What makes a sausage Portuguese? Is it the size that matters, cause get all the different diameters and lengths?" What You Figgah?

Homemade Portuguese Sausage? I never know people was still making homemade Portuguese sausage...I guess I didn't get the memo. Anyways, three brave souls have put their okoles on the line by issuing a WOW Grinds Challenge to see if their homemade Portuguese sausages can overcome the full force blitz of the titans of store bought Portuguese Sausages. Individual sausage masters from Hilo, Maui and Waipahu make up the "Homemade Team" while the members of the "Store Bought Team" is a tightly held secret for now. To spock some potential "Store Bought Team" members, check out Tasty Island's Great Portuguese Sausage Shootout and witness for yourself the raw power of the store bought Portuguese sausages.
So when going happen? On Sunday, 9/14/08, the gloves will come off and these fierce competitors will throwdown in a balls out Portuguese Sausage Punch Out.

 The Meat Jun Mayhem took place on August 23, 2008. (Mahalos to Club Queen Bee for use of their facilities.) 9 of the "best" meat juns, from some of the "best" places, faced off in a WOW Grinds blind taste test. What if the top 3 shoyu pokes from the Shoyu Poke Showdown went up against some feisty new competitors. Will they be able to sucessfully defend their titles? Or would we be crowning a new shoyu poke champ. One possible competitor we've been hearing lots of talk about is Ono Seafood (Kapahulu). So how does Ono Seafood's shoyu poke measure up against our reigning shoyu poke champ, JJ Seafoods?  The Shoyu Poke Showdown took place on June 7, 2008. 10 of the "best" shoyu pokes, from some of the "best" places, went head to head in a WOW Grinds blind taste test. For some reason the judges were really hard on the pokes. No poke scored above an 8 for average score. What's up with dat?! SHOCKED is all I can say about the results of this one...SHOCKED. Sorry, but some of the photos came out junk...need some practice with the camera skills. Click "read more" to see the results.

 The Fried Rice Fiesta took place on June 5, 2008. Nelli778 issued a WOW Grinds Challenge and put her homemade fried rice up against 4 fried rices from some of the so-called best places. It was our closest scoring WOW Grinds blind taste test yet and was truly a battle between the best of the best.

 The Hamburger Steak Hullabaloo took place on April 5, 2008. We put 8 hamburger steaks, from some of the so-called best places, through a WOW Grinds blind taste test. The results shocked me. My two favorites ended up ranking toward the bottom. Please note that scoring for this taste off was based on 3 weighted criteria: Taste worth 50%...Texture worth 30%...Presentation worth 20%.
