The Limu Poke Leviathan took place on October 18, 2008. Mahalos to the folks at Luana Hills Country Club for letting us use their facilities. 12 limu pokes from some of the best places put their reputations to the test in a WOW Grinds Blind Taste Test. There's nothing better than the smell of fresh fish and oceany limu...it was limu poke heaven. The results and rankings are coming soon.

 The Pork Hash Passion (a.k.a. The Passion of the Hash) took place on September 20, 2008...the same day as the Manapua Madness. Seven grand master pork hashers faced off in a WOW Grinds Blind Taste Test. In the end, a clear winner emerged. She was unstoppable. Nobody could touch her. As Sean would say, "she had action!"  We've been wanting to do a best kal-bi blind taste test, but have been putting it off due to a small kine dilemma. Should we include big bone kal-bi (a.ka. King Kal-bi) with 3 bone kal-bi in the same blind taste test? Some folks been saying "throw em all in together...kal-bi is kal-bi no matter the cut." Other folks been saying "you gotta separate em cause the big bone kal-bi going have one advantage...more tender...because of the way it's cut." Hopefully, with your help, we can figure this out and do kal-bi for our next WOW Grinds Blind Taste Test. What you figgah? |

Are all limu pokes created equal? If you answered "NO!" to this question (and I hope you did), then what makes one limu poke better than the rest?
In the next WOW Grinds Blind Taste Test we hope to find out. But before we taste, we wanted the judges to tell us what they looking for in a winnah poke. And then, even if you not going be one limu poke judge, throw in your two cents and tell the judges what they should be looking for. It was Manapua Madness on September 20, 2008. Six grand masters of the ancient art of manapua making faced off in a WOW Grinds Blind Taste Test. In the end only one master was left standing. His technique was "real good...hmmff" with an overall score of 8.1 while the next closest competitor scored only a 6.68. How's dat for a blow out. Click "read more" to see the results. |

Some people been asking if we're going to do a blind taste test for best loco moco. This turned in to a small kine debate. Some people said "no need do loco moco" because we already did best hamburger steak and loco moco is just hamburger steak with egg on top so what's the use...the best hamburger steak would probably win best loco moco too. Then the other people said "gotta do loco moco" because it's a completely different thing from hamburger steak because the egg on top changes everything. Then another person said, "so you telling me the egg on top going make one mediocre hamburger steak taste supa ono?" What you figgah?

 Planning the Portuguese Sausage Punch Out required us to be a bit more creative because this was the first challenge where we had to cook up the competitors ourselves.

The Portuguese Sausage Punch Out took place on September 14, 2008. Three homemade Portuguese Sausages issued a WOW Grinds Challenge and went toe to toe with five popular store bought Portuguese sausages in a WOW Grinds blind taste test. This turned out to be a real battle of the "Winnahs" as no competitor scored below a 5 in total average score. One competitor even got a perfect 10 from judge Picky Picky! The top three sausages were true standouts and fought hard to earn their places at the top. |
